Museum Development East Midlands Regional Conference

Museum of Leathercraft Curator, Victoria Green, won an award for her speech at the MDEM Regional Conference, “Brave New World”, at the Civil War Centre in Newark. Museum representatives had five minutes each to ‘fizz’ about something exciting, inspiring or interesting related to their own museum. Victoria’s talk, entitled “Bringing museum skeletons out of the stores” tackled ethical concerns surrounding the disposal of challenging museum material, and the expectations vs. reality of how we are able to resolve these issues in what can sometimes be a very grey area. Victoria hopes that her talk will encourage other Curators to talk more openly about their museum ‘skeletons’ in the hope that Museums will be able to offer advice and support to each other based on their experiences.
